CCTV Systems

A CCTV is an assistive technology device that magnifies print. Most of the Resource Rooms in comprehensive Arizona One-Stop Centers have portable CCTV systems that can be used anywhere within the facility. Clients may view books, documents, and forms easily with a CCTV. Reading the fine print of telephone books is quite easy with the adjustments on each CCTV for color, contrast, and mode. Forms may be completed when a vision impaired client needs to have a magnified view to see clearly when filling in the form.

All photographs on this page are set up to show an enlarged view when you click on the photo. Alt tags are used to describe the content of each image to web visitors who use screen readers. All CCTV units in One-Stop Centers that work with the ATAZ Staff Training Program have additional photos of the actual CCTV in each facility. Our photo gallery featuring assistive technology resources for Blind/Vision Impairment also shows a variety of CCTV systems.

CCTV devices are used in office workstations for staff who are vision impaired. There are many makes and models, but all work essentially the same way. A camera in the unit sends the image to a TV or a computer monitor. The CCTV can be adjusted for slight magnifications up to enlargements that will have only a few letters or words at a time filling up the entire display screen. Some users prefer modes that have text as black on a white background, others like black backgrounds with white text, and still others are aided by CCTV's that have color modes for changing text and background to many combinations that are just right for the client.

The Clarity brand CCTV features a camera head that can be removed from the base system and moved to another room in the facility and plugged into a display monitor. This is great for training purposes so the staff or client may participate during sessions where documents are discussed during meetings. Some CCTV units allow the camera to be adjusted to show a magnified view from across the room to the CCTV users.
