ACBVI: ATAZ Training Program
Target
Audience: Workplace
Description: Designed to orient
staff to disability etiquette and target issues such as basic accommodations
and access to resources in local One-Stop Service Centers. The ATAZ
Trainers at ACBVI work closely with Navigators in scheduling and
coordinating trainings in the Centers. Participants in such trainings

JAN Webcasts are available at no cost. JAN provides free, confidential technical assistance about job accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA. Gather your employees together in a room for live, in-service training. Educate yourself, management, and other employees on disability etiquette, assistive technologies, management techniques, and the latest on accommodations and the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). All Webcasts begin at 2 pm eastern and are 1 hour. You must register to attend. One registration is equivalent to one login.
How JAN Webcasts Work
Registrations are for a single computer, not a person. Any number of people may participate at that computer through the single Web link provided by the registration. However, one registration allows you one login, which includes the e-mail with which you register and a password given three to five business days prior to the scheduled event. April 10, 2012. JAN Webcast: Understanding and Accommodating Mobility Impairments in the Workplace
The presenters will give an overview of how to accommodate individuals with mobility impairments, including accommodations for accessing the work site and work space; moving, carrying, and lifting items; maintaining balance; driving; and sitting, standing, and walking for long periods. Accommodation examples, available assistive technologies, and other products and equipment will be discussed.
May 15, 2012. JAN Webcast: Providing Reasonable Accommodations to Employees with Mental Health Impairments
Major depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder are some of the mental health impairments that affect millions of working Americans. Working with these impairments can present some unique employment challenges, but those challenges are often solvable. JAN consultants will discuss the legal issues involved and provide ideas for effective accommodations.
An introduction of using Human Guide to assist a person who is Blind to navigate. Formerly called "sighted guide", this tutorial demonstrates tips for being helpful with those who would like such guidance. NOTE: This Human Guide video is found on the visionaware.org web site and is not part of the atarizona.com web site.

AssistiveWare provides online podcasts and videos about assistive technology. There are many current podcasts and videos downloadable as video podcasts which are profiles of adults who need speech and language assistance, have physical access issues or are blind and use assistive technology to communicate. The series is called Exploring the Frontiers of Assistive Technology. This is what the web site tells about the series:
"A video podcast showing how people use assistive technology to communicate, express their creativity, play games and make so much more out of life. These videos show that there is no reason why people with physical, vision, speech or language impairments cannot use the same creative and educational software as every other Mac OS X user. Use 7-1-1 for free national telephone relay service for people with speech disabilities. Operators are specially trained to provide Speech-to-Speech services for people who have trouble communicating with others on the telephone due to speech impairment such as stuttering, artificial speech AT or other speech disorders.
This movie trailer for Murderball, 2004 winner of many film awards, is shown in training sessions for Ergonomics and Physical Considerations. See the assistive technology and explanation of how adults with amputations and spinal cord injury live their lives to the fullest and compete in international athletic competitions.
City of Surprise: Disability Awareness Series. This series of videotapes is available on the City of Surprise web site for Channel 11, where you may watch each one hour segment online. It is also broadcast on regular television program schedule on a repeating basis. See the city web site for the TV program schedule. The first session is listed on the link below about Deaf and Hard of Hearing disability awareness. The week of October 6 the second session will be online for the topic of Blindness and Vision Impairments. The second session was presented by our ATAZ Staff Training Program on October 1.
